Making The Outdoors Even More Fun

When I started hanging out with a few of my old friends from high school, I discovered that they were into extreme sports. They loved motorbiking, skydiving, and rock climbing--all of which scared me to death. Because I was nervous about getting hurt or seriously injured, I decided to act as a spectator the first few times. I realized that they had very particular safety precautions in place, and that they were having the time of their lives. I started joining in, and it made the great outdoors even more enjoyable and exciting. Read more about extreme sports on this blog.

What You Should Bring And Wear When Whitewater Rafting?

A common question that people have when they sign up for a whitewater rafting trip is what they should bring and wear for the experience. Here is what you need to know so that you don't come unprepared.

What You Should Wear

You'll want to arrive while wearing your bathing suit since you are likely going to get wet at some point. You should also bring a dry outerwear layer so that you can stay warm if it is a bit chilly, such as a fleece jacket and sweatpants. For shoes, you want to wear water shoes or sandals that strap onto your feet. Flip flops that can easily fall off should not be worn since they can be lost if you fall into the water or easily come off your feet in the raft.

What They Provide

There are many things that are going to be provided to you as part of the experience. Some whitewater rafting companies provide you with a wetsuit, which can be worn on top of your bathing suit. This is important during the colder weather since a wetsuit is going to keep you warm and make the experience more enjoyable. They are also going to give you a safety vest and a helmet so that you are fully protected during the experience. You do not need to worry about bringing any additional equipment, such as paddles, since those are all provided for you.

What You Need To Bring

Anything that you bring that is not needed for the whitewater rafting trip is going to be left behind. It is common to take a bus to the launch site, and all of your additional belongings are going to be left back on the bus. Don't worry though, because you'll be picked up on the bus at the end so that you can get all of your belongings when you are finished. Plan to leave your car keys, wallet, phone, or anything else behind rather than take it on the raft with you.

It is a good idea to bring a set of dry clothes to change into. While it's possible that you stay fairly dry during your trip, there is always that risk that you fall into the water and are soaking wet. Having extra clothes on hand will ensure that you're comfortable all the way home so you are not sitting in wet clothes. It also will help to bring a towel with you to dry off when you're finished.
